What is The Emerging Leaders Intensive?

The Intensive is a selective, six-week synchronous program engineered to develop executive presence and rhetorical maturity in a distinguished tier of scholar. It is not an enrichment program. It is a high-stakes practicum, structured around a strict 5:1 Scholar-to-Faculty ratio, where authority is built through substantive contribution, not performative theatrics.

Scholars do not exit with public speaking tips. They exit with Communicative Equity: the ability to lead high-stakes discussions, synthesize complex ideas under pressure, and direct the momentum of elite academic and professional environments.

The program is directed by Mark Bottita, an alumnus of the University of Notre Dame and a university faculty member with over twenty-five years of experience in high-stakes academic environments. Every Faculty Mentor is selected for dual expertise: academic pedigree and a sophisticated capacity for individualized strategic direction.

Will my scholar maintain a balanced summer itinerary?

Yes they will. The Intensive is engineered to respect the demands of a full summer calendar. Synchronous sessions run Monday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., leaving evenings, weekends, and Fridays entirely in the scholar’s hands.

The program is intellectually dense without being depleting. Scholars maintain international travel itineraries, elite athletic and arts commitments, and community leadership obligations without academic disruption. The rigorous development occurs within the scheduled window — by design.

The Summer Scholars Method is specifically designed for the high-potential, low-visibility scholar. Communication apprehension is not a lack of intelligence, it is a lack of rhetorical conditioning. We address it directly.

How is the integrity of the learning environment maintained?

The Summer Scholars Intensive is a curated environment where sophistication and rigor are non-negotiable. Every candidate undergoes a comprehensive Review and Discovery Session prior to acceptance, ensuring intellectual readiness and alignment with our institutional values before a single session convenes.

Within the 5:1 Cohort, Faculty Mentors maintain a strict standard of Executive Ethics and Empathy, ensuring every interaction mirrors the decorum of a professional boardroom. Structured group protocols and consistent mentorship foster the precise balance of Psychological Safety and Intellectual Friction that high-stakes development requires.

What are the technical requirements?

To preserve the professional integrity of the Boardroom Labs, participation standards are specific and non-negotiable. Scholars must engage via a high-speed internet connection, a high-definition webcam, and a dedicated, quiet workspace. Desktop or laptop participation is required — mobile-only access is not permitted. All curriculum modules, briefing materials, and peer resources are housed within a Private Institutional Platform. Prior to the Intensive, each scholar completes a guided onboarding sequence. Our Technical Concierge is available well in advance of the first session to ensure all configurations are optimized and ready.

What are the English proficiency requirements?

English is the sole language of instruction. To ensure scholars can contribute meaningfully to the high-velocity discourse of the Boardroom Labs, non-native speakers must provide formal verification of proficiency prior to enrollment.

Automatic Waiver: Candidates attending an institution where English is the primary language of academic instruction are exempt from this requirement.

Accepted Benchmarks:
TOEFL iBT — minimum 100 (or equivalent 5+ on the 2026 scale)
IELTS — minimum 7.0
Duolingo English Test — minimum 130
Competitive PSAT, SAT, or ACT scores are also accepted in the absence of the above.

Initial scores may be self-reported during the Dossier Submission phase. Official institutional verification is required to finalize enrollment.

Accuracy in all self-representations is a foundational requirement. Submission of fraudulent data is grounds for immediate denial or expulsion.

The Selection Process

Stage I — Diagnostic Assessment

A brief structured evaluation establishing the scholar’s current rhetorical baseline. The Diagnostic informs the Alignment Interview and ensures that both parties arrive at that conversation with relevant foundational data.

Stage II — Alignment Interview

A direct conversation between the scholar, their family, and the Founding Director. The program evaluates the scholar’s communicative potential and readiness; the family evaluates whether the program’s intensity and methodology are the right fit. Neither party is obligated to proceed. This stage precedes the formal application by design — because a program serious about its cohort confirms alignment before it accepts one.

Stage III — Authorized Candidate Application

Initiated only after mutual confirmation of fit. The application is a detailed record of the scholar’s academic background, interests, and ambitions, accompanied by one Letter of Commendation from an educator or school counselor who can substantiate the scholar’s academic performance, character, or trajectory.

Are records accessible to families?

Yes. Transparent stewardship is a cornerstone of our methodology. Unlike federally funded institutions restricted by general privacy mandates, we prioritize keeping families and private offices fully apprised of the scholar’s progress and institutional benchmarks throughout the Intensive.

Detailed assessments are provided at regular intervals, ensuring the family can witness and support the development of the scholar’s rhetorical identity in real time.

One exception: if a scholar wishes to restrict access to their records, we will honor that request unless legal authorization dictates otherwise. We respect the scholar’s developing autonomy as an emerging leader.

Does the program allow time for reflection, or is it entirely high-intensity?

The curriculum distinguishes between formation and execution, and sequences them accordingly. Participants are not accelerated past their development. The pacing is deliberate, the faculty engagement is direct, and the progression toward high-stakes rhetorical practice is earned, not assumed.
